On 29 September, Coopacsol took part in the National Training Day on Corporate Criminal Prevention, held at the Universidad Católica Santo Domingo. It was organised by Attorneysal and CESI Internacional, with the sponsorship of FIBA.
The programme was taught by Gustavo A. de los Santos Coll and Lionel V. Correa Tapounet, authors of the Practical Guide to Corporate Criminal Prevention, using the guide's expanded content.
The starting question
The day began with a question that is both simple and difficult: if your company were investigated tomorrow, what evidence could you show to prove that you directed, controlled and supervised it?
Good intentions are not enough, and neither is a rulebook kept in a drawer. What counts is being able to show, with documents and records, that decisions were made properly and that someone supervised them.
What was covered
The sessions went through the Dominican legal framework and the route to implement a prevention model, step by step, with practical cases:
- ✓A formal decision by the board.
- ✓A diagnosis of the organisation.
- ✓A risk map.
- ✓A manual and protocols.
- ✓Implementation and monitoring.
Why it matters for a cooperative
For a cooperative this is not a formality. What we manage are our members' savings, and taking care of them also means clear rules for decisions, supervision and record-keeping in every branch: Bayahibe, Dominicus and Bávaro.
Prevention is not a document on a shelf: it is the ability to show, with evidence, that the organisation was directed, controlled and supervised. That is the guarantee we owe every member.
Preventing today is protecting tomorrow.
